For anyone who is interested, we agreed that we might look at Renzo Marten's film Episode III: Enjoy Poverty, snippets are available on YouTube.
The work probably needs to be considered in the context of the durational project by Martens, The Institute for Human Activities.
Here is an interview between Renzo Martens and Artur Zmijewski from the 7th Berlin Bienale, in which Martens discusses this work: link
Ann suggested a reading in which this work is critically discussed; Anthony Downey, 2009, An Ethics of Engagement: Collaborative Art Practices and the Return of the Ethnographer, in Third Text which may be available here
And another reading by Downey, 2007, Towards a Politics of (Relational) Aesthetics:
Kevin suggested the following reading, Walead Beshty’s introduction to his edited collection titled Ethics (2015), Whitechapel series.
Perhaps there is enough there to be going on with for the next reading group?
